June 1, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians/Grandparents/and Interested Citizens:

Here are some important events and dates to note:

  • Dance Institute Performance - Stronger: This performance was held on Wednesday in the gymnasium The performance was phenomenal with an excellent turnout. There were a number of resources available that night, including ACCESS, the Police Department, New Life for Women and Children, Tobacco Secession, We’ve Got Your Back (WGYB), Monadnock Center Violence Prevention, Center Church, and the Salt and Light Youth Program. A special thanks to Kristen Leach from NHDI for her writing, directing and choreographing this event and to Lisa Cook for her assistance. It was all made possible through the funding from WGYB. They certainly did have our back! Most importantly, an enormous recognition goes out to students in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 for participating and presenting a quality program! Together, we are stronger! Awesome job to all!
  • June 5th, Mandatory Meeting for all Incoming Keene High Freshmen Athletes – There will be a mandatory meeting for all incoming freshmen student athletes and their parents(s) guardian(s). This meeting is for those who are anticipating trying out for a sport at Keene High School during their Freshman year during the 2018 – 1019 school year, not just Fall sports. It will be held in the Keene High School Auditorium from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.  They will have information available about FREE sports physicals which will be available on June 19th.

  • June 8th,Field Day – Students will be enjoying a day of fun with a variety of activities planned, including a B-B-Q! Ashley Nicholson has planned and is coordinating this event. A huge thank you to Ashley. This has been a tremendous amount of work, and hopefully next year we can have a committee work on this event with student serving on the committee.

  • June 9th, Bike Rodeo- The Kiwanis are presenting the 3rd annual rodeo on Saturday, June 9th from 11am-1pm in the back parking lot at the Winchester School. Bike Helmets are available for participating children ages 1-14. This event has a complimentary lunch. We are fortunate to have such an active Kiwanis Club in Winchester. Thank you Bridie Pierce for your efforts to coordinate this, and to the sponsors: Winchester Emergency Services, Winchester Police Department, Winchester Fire Department, and the Keene Swamp Bats.

  • Teen Assessment Project (TAP) Survey – Grade 6, Thursday, June 7th; Grades 7 and 8th Monday, June 11th. Students in grades 6th through 8th will be given an opportunity to anonymously share their views on a variety of topics. This survey has been given to our students every two years beginning in 2007 and helps us to enhance our health curriculum. Parents need to provide permission for their children to participate. We are still awaiting parent permission forms so we can plan accordingly. For the convenience of parents that have not had the opportunity to review and sign this form, there will be a mailing sent home next week. Please be looking for it. There is a sample survey in the Main Office for your review. Sixth grade students will be taking the survey on Thursday, June 7th during the Health class while 7th and 8th grade students will be completing the survey on Monday, June 11th. If you have any questions please contact Missy Calderwood at 603 – 499 – 6086.
