Dear Parents/Guardians/Grandparents/and Interested Citizens:

This Newsletter highlights some of events that may of interest you.

An author & illustrator is visiting!  Wednesday, May 2nd Marty Kelley will be here for presentations with grades K-5.  On May 8th and 9th he will be working with all fourth graders on the process of writing and illustrating.  There will be a family presentation on Wednesday, May 9th at 6 pm in the gym.

Vacation: Next week is our Spring Vacation. There will be no school April 23rd -27th. We will return to school on Monday, April 30. It looks like warmer weather for next week, in the high 50s and 60s. We hope you have the opportunity to enjoy it!

State Testing: We have been working hard on state testing! Third, fourth, and fifth graders have completed their scheduled sessions for both English Language Arts and Math. Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders will complete their sessions after vacation. Fifth and eighth graders will be taking the science assessment in May as well. Please encourage your students to try their best. So far we have been pleased by some great writing work! We have been particularly impressed with our third graders who are taking the tests for the first time, and are really working hard! This is a good opportunity to show what we can do.

Kindergarten Information Sessions: Our amazing kindergarten teachers will be hosting some information sessions for parents of incoming Kindergarteners. If you have a child who will be turning five before October 1, please contact Diane Willis to register for kindergarten. Then, join us for an information session on Wednesday, May 16th at 6:00 pm or Saturday, May 19th at 9:00 am.

Recycling! We have begun working on coordinated recycling in our school cafeterias. We started with milk cartons. Thanks to the help of students and staff w have already been able to adjust the amount of waste picked up in our dumpsters. That means we’re saving money and helping the environment! You will probably hear more about recycling as we really get the hang of some new initiatives!

Winchester Talent Show: Please join us on May 18th in the Winchester School gym for the talent show. You are sure to be impressed and amazed by the broad range of talents our students and staff have in store.
