Dear Parents/Guardians/Grandparents/and Interested Citizens:
The purpose of this Newsletter is to provide an update on recent and upcoming events.
Friday, February 23rd – Winter Break began: Students began their winter break at the end of the day Friday and will return on Tuesday, March 6th.
Saturday, February 24th – NECA Cheer Tournament Competition: The Cheer Team kicked off their vacation with a competitive tournament in Connecticut, Saturday, February 24th. This was the culmination of their season. Under the direction of Co-coaches Monica Poole and Stephanie Taylor, our Cheer student athletes in grades four through eight have entertained spectators during intermissions at basketball games and enjoyed a season of fun practicing and competing. They brought their best to the final big stage of season. They placed 1st! Congratulations Tiger Cheer team.
Monday, March 5th – there is no school for students as it will be a full day of professional development for staff.
March 7th Scholarship Information Available: Please remember this is an important night for graduating Keene High Seniors looking for funds to support higher education. Information and packets can be picked up in the Middle School Cafeteria beginning at 6:00 p.m. Senior night is May 24th at 6:00 p.m. in the Middle School Cafeteria.
March 6th – 9th Read Across America – This is a wonderful event for students to see adults serving as role models as they share the excitement and pleasures of reading. This year’s event is being coordinated by Mel Harrison and sponsored by Title I. Please follow up with your child and perhaps find another book at the library on a similar theme.
Bus Support – Generally, the majority of students remember the rules when riding the bus to and from school. As we return for the remainder of the school year, it will be greatly appreciated if parents could review the rules with their children to ensure the safety of all students and avoid having the privilege of riding the bus taken away. The principal and vice principal are working with the bus company and others to eliminate some of the recent issues that have emerged. Collectively, we can resolve them.
Grant Awards – These past few months the Administrative team submitted several safety and security grants. We received word recently that they have been approved. To avoid jeopardizing the integrity of these grants I will refrain from specifics at this time. This past week, two additional grants have been submitted. More later.
Winchester Highway Department – We are most fortunate to have a great working team at the highway department. To date this winter, they kept the throughway road clear, provided salt to melt the ice, and recently removed a “ton” of snow to capture back some of our parking spaces. Please extend your appreciation if you run into any of them, not literally! They are doing a great job during this challenging winter.
Parent/Teacher Association – We are most fortunate to have an active PTA in this District. Their fundraising efforts generate dollars that directly benefit students in a variety of areas. Perhaps a summary at the conclusion of the school year will highlight the many benefits and accomplishments. Presently, they are selling PTA Calendar Fund Raiser. The cost is $10.00 for the month of March. There are drawings daily. If interested in purchasing a calendar please contact Diane at the front office or your child’s teacher.
Thank you for taking the time to review this Newsletter.
