February 16, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians/Grandparents/and Interested Citizens:

This Newsletter highlights important dates and present/upcoming events.

February 21st: Dance Performance! Students and staff have been enjoying dance instruction from the New Hampshire Dance Institute these past few weeks. This program was sponsored by We’ve Got Your Back (WGYB)”. You are invited to enjoy the Play/Dance performance “Gratitude” on Wednesday, February 21st. For your convenience, there are two performances scheduled. The first will be held at 2:30 pm and the second will begin at 6:30 pm; both in the gymnasium. You do not want to miss this performance.

Gratitude Wall! The Look for the Good Project, which is sponsored by ACCESS, encourages students to stop for a moment on “Gratitude Spots” that are placed on the floor throughout the building and think about things that they are thankful for. Next, they write theirs thoughts on sticky paper and to date over 3,000 thankful thoughts are on display in each cafeteria. You will enjoy reading them, AND there is a spot on the floor when you enter the building so please feel free to add to the wall! (Sticky note paper available in Office.)

February 22nd: Egyptian Night! There will be an Open House on February 22nd from 6 pm to 7 pm for parents of 6th grade students. As a culmination of their Ancient Egypt studies, on display in the hall is their “museum of work”. Additionally, be sure to check out the mummified hot dog! Students had a great time with this unit, along with teachers Tim Durr, Heather Pelkey, Jolene Miner and paraprofessional, Kathy Wright.

February 26th - March 2nd: Winter Break! Friday, February 23 is a full day of school and the following week students will enjoy their winter break. This vacation may be helpful in interrupting the spread of the flu while students are enjoying a well-deserved break.

March 5th: Teacher Professional Development Day! Please note that students will not be attending school on March 5thas Teachers will be fully engaged in timely professional development.

March 7th: Winter Sports Banquet! The Basketball and Cheer Athletes and families are invited to attend the Sports Banquet on March 7th beginning at 6 pm in the Elementary Cafeteria. This is a potluck event. Please bring the following food that coincides with the first letter of your last name: A-F dessert, G-S dish to share: T-Z drinks/chips. The Winchester Sports Booster Club will be supplying paper products. As a friendly reminder, athletes must turn in their uniforms at the banquet. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

March 13th: School Ballot! On Tuesday, March 13 the Winchester School District Elections will take place at the Town Hall from 8 am until 7 pm.
