Dear Parents/Guardians/Grandparents/and Interested Citizens:
The purpose of this Newsletter is to provide an update on recent events.
Deliberative Session: Last night voters acted on the School Warrant Articles for next year by an overwhelming majority. It was helpful that the School Board and the Budget Committee both recommended the respective Articles. The results of the money Articles are as follows:

Article Two:
School Budget: $11,516,566.
Default Budget: $11,860,952.
Article Three:
Two-Year CBA with Support Staff: Year One: $41,833; Year Two: $43,957
Article Five:
Special Education Expendable Trust 
Fund: $25,000
Article Six:
Building Improvement Capital Reserve Fund: $85,000

The next important date is March 13 where residents will have an opportunity to cast their ballots. More information will be available on the District Webpage. If  you had the opportunity to attend last nights meeting I thank you for being a concerned, interested and participatory community member.
Building and Grounds Resignation: After 17 years of service to the District in the capacity of custodian, Director of Facilities and Building and Grounds, Donald Chamberlain tendered his resignation, effective January 31, 2018. During his time in the District, he coordinated numerous projects and contributed significantly to the upkeep of both facility and property. We wish him well in his retirement.

Director of Facilities: After an extensive interviewing process, we have selected Ian Spencer to serve in this position. The job description has been updated and he will be responsible for all building and grounds upkeep and repairs and will supervise the custodial staff. Ian brings a wealth of knowledge and skill and we look forward to his expertise as we address the needs of this aging this facility. Please join me in welcoming Ian. This position is an upgrade to the Building and Grounds position that became vacant with the retirement of Donald Chamberlain. 

Scholarship Information:  Although mentioned in the previous Newsletter, it is worth repeating because money is available to help students seek higher education opportunities. There will be an informational session for students graduating from Keene High School on the availability of various scholarship offered on March 7th in the Winchester Middle School Cafeteria. You will be able to ask questions and pick up applications.  Please mark your calendar. Specifics will be provided as the date approaches.

Gratitude Campaign: The school recently began a two-week initiative entitled, “Look for the Good Project”. There are reminders throughout the school for students and staff to think about what they are thankful for. Actually, there are “Orange Gratitude Spots” on the floor for students and staff to step on and share their thoughts with others. Each morning students write their gratitude thoughts on sticky notes to create a Wall of Gratitude in the Cafeteria. You can obtain your own sticky notes to write on from the Main Office and join in on the fun. Students are also receiving and giving Kindness Cards to anyone in the building. I enjoyed my first one on Monday! This program was actually inspired by the humpback whale! You can do your own research on this initiative by going to:
