Kids First! WINchester
Please join us Saturday, January 28th at the Winchester School
from 8:30 am – 1:00 pm for a Summit to support Winchester’s Children & Youth.
Registration is FREE!
We know the skills children and youth need to make successful transitions. We are looking for the help of the community - parents, grandparents, caregivers, older youth, community members, teachers, and other professionals - to determine the best way to get this information out to all parents.
Come hear selected panelists speak about the issues facing Winchester children entering Kindergarten, High School, or graduating from High School. Participants will then meet in small groups to develop solutions – because the Winchester community can work towards what is best for Winchester students.
Free snacks, lunch and childcare are available. There will be special focus groups for upper elementary and middle school students. We kindly request you register so we know how much food to purchase, and to determine childcare needs.
Kids First, Winchester! – wanting what’s best for our kids and working for it!
Many students took advantage of the fun summer learning opportunities offered by Winchester School ACCESS this summer. The students shown above are learning to survey a historic property in the town of Winchester, with the guidance of professional surveyors Richard Drew, LLC, his son Matt Drew, and Wendy Ganio, LLS. Town Historian Cliff Struthers was on hand to answer questions about Winchester's rich history. Students visited the Registry of Deeds in Keene to research the land title. Here they learned some history of surveying from David Mann, LLS, of Keene. They spent time in the field collecting data, and returned to the computer lab to upload coordinates, ultimately producing a map of the land they surveyed. Students also created a project brochure and powerpoint presentation about their experience, which they will present to the New Hampshire Land Surveyors association at the annual meeting in December. WOW. Thank you to these talented professionals who dedicated their time to mentor students and teach about career opportunities. This is what makes ACCESS great!
Elementary School Program is growing steadily!
Please consider sharing your time and talents!

All ACCESS volunteers who have regular contact with children must agree to a background check administered by the Winchester School District. All volunteers will attend an orientation, and necessary training will be provided. Short and long term positions available.
Education Station Assistance
Education Station volunteers help children with homework by helping them to stay focused, to make connections to classroom learning, and to locate appropriate references and resources.Ed Station volunteers can also work with children at the various challenge stations that are set up for those students that complete homework or don’t have any.
Activity Assistance
Volunteers can have a great positive impact on children when working side by side with children and staff in an activity or club. By offering your help with arts and crafts, science experiments, and hands on learning, you can make a difference in the program and for the children. An additional set of eyes, ears and hands can also help us identify challenging situations before they become a problem.
Recreation Time Playground and Games Supervision
On the playground and in large group settings, that extra set of eyes and ears can make all the difference. And children crave connections with community adults.Could it be you?
