TITLE I PART A - HELPING DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN MEET HIGH STANDARDS
Grants through Title I Part A provide opportunities for children to acquire the knowledge and skills to meet the State proficiency standards. Title I services must be shown to "add value" to the instructional program provided to all students by general funds. The Title I program must provide services "above and beyond" the general curriculum. Title I must be supplemental and not supplant in any way the general curriculum.
To best see how Title I can help your disadvantaged students, look at the general curriculum and make sure the regular classroom teacher is supplying all academic instruction to all students. Then add in title I as a supplement to what is already taught all students. Then add in Title I as a supplement to what is already taught all students. Title I can pre-teach or re-teach skills to students that have shown a need for having material presented to them more than the regular classroom can provide.
Title I services may be provided in the classroom, as a pullout, and before or after school. Title I is not just helping a student complete classroom assignments. This is a lesson taught by a "highly qualified" professional to support what the primary teacher has presented to the general classroom population.
