Text Box: Spotlight on Reading

Today we started our reading routine.  We will be on a six day cycle so be sure to look at the newsletter to find out when the spelling test will be.  Students will pre-test on the skills being taught. Based on these results we will form the extra support groups for the week.  Mrs. Truesdell will be our Title One support person this year in reading.  All children will have a chance to go with her throughout the year.  At the end of the 6 days students will be tested again to see the improvement they have made.  This week we are working on summarizing, telling the main idea, characters and setting of a story.  We are also going to work on multiple meaning words, and identify base words.
Our story is about the Iditarod race so students may want to be looking up more information about this at home.  If you have any questions about reading please contact me.

Text Box: A Note from the Teacher

We are off to a great start.  The children are working hard and I am impressed with their work habits.  Routines are falling into place.  Students are doing a great job remembering from day to day what to do within these routines.
We have started math and are studying geometry.  This week will start our reading routines.
We have snack everyday and children should bring in a snack for that time.
If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact me.
