Be a School Volunteer!

At the Winchester School we recognize the important service that a volunteer program can contribute to our school.  We know that it can enrich the learning experiences of students, provide role models for them, utilize the human resources in our community, give school personnel more time to devote to teaching, more effectively meet the needs of individual students, enrich the lives of the volunteers, and strengthen school-community relations.  If you are interested in becoming a school volunteer, please call the school at 603-239-4381 or email us at pigelow@wnhsd.org.  Our volunteer opportunities include:

  • Individual, small-group or classroom assistance, either on a regular basis or for occasional special projects

  • After-school clubs and activities (knitting, cooking, woodshop, etc.) through our ACCESS program

  • Teacher assistance (bulletin boards, running off papers, preparing classroom materials, etc.)  Some of these activities can be done at home!

  • Become part of one of our committees - gardening, technology, emergency response, facility needs, and of course, curriculum and school improvement.  See Upcoming Events to find dates of the meeting you might be interested in.

  • Publishing (typing students' stories)

  • Read aloud to students

  • Library assistance

  • America Reads (through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program)

  • Literacy pal (adopt a student pen pal)

  • Lunch room or recess aide

  • Nurse's aide

  • Computer lab assistant

  • Beautifying school grounds

  • Assist with fund-raising events such as the book fair

  • Small repairs (might also be done at home)

  • Adopt a class to donate snacks, special supplies, etc.

  • Assist with props, costumes, and/or scenery for special school programs

  • What would you like to do?  We are always open to new ideas!
