Mrs. Felton’s Newsletter

September, 2008

Dear  Parents,

I’d like to welcome you and your child to first grade.  Learning is a partnership between home and school.  It is very important for us to assist each other in the process of teaching your child academic and social skills.  Good attendance will help your child to do his/her best.  Please feel free to contact me about any concern.  Remember it takes teamwork to enable us to give the best to your child.

First grade involves a busy work filled day.  Children who are well rested and have eaten a well-balanced breakfast have the best opportunity of learning.  You will need to send in a healthy snack which we will eat in the afternoon and a water bottle daily for your child.     Lunch and milk money should be placed in a labeled sealed envelope or zip-loc bag on Monday or Friday for that week.  Lunch time is 11:30.  Also, please dress your child in layers.  Though the mornings are cool, it  does get very  warm in the classroom.  Your child  will be able  to focus better if  he/she  is  comfortable.

My class has gym on Fridays.  Sneakers and appropriate  clothing  must  be  worn  for  safety  and  easy  movement.     Music  is on Wednesdays.    Library  will  be  on  Mondays.     The  children are allowed to  bring their book home to share  with you.  The book must be returned  by the following Monday.   Computer Lab is on Tuesdays.  Art is on Thursdays.  Children will not be having Spanish classes this year.

Remind your  child how he/she will be coming home each day.  If there are any changes from the usual way, you must send in a written note with your child on that day.   Dismissal for everyone is at 3:05.

I’m  looking forward to an exciting, productive year.  Homework  will  begin  after  Labor Day  and will be given  Monday – Thursday.  Thank you for being involved  in your child’s  education.  I’m  looking forward  to an exciting, productive  year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Felton
