WINCHESTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

PRESCHOOL NEWS
Dear Parents,
The
children all had a wonderful time at the farm. The only part they had a hard
time understanding is why we could not go back the next day! Highlights were
riding the pony, milking the cow, getting an egg from the chicken coop (one
child held it for two days and even slept with it at night!) , and eating
pizza until they could eat no more!
In class
we have been talking a lot about farm animals; the names of adults and young,
their sounds, and why farmers raise them. This week we will talk about
vegetables farmers might grow. We will learn that we eat the roots of some
vegetables (potatoes, carrots , beets…), while others we eat the stems and
leaves of (celery, spinach) and still others we eat the flower or seed of
(corn, beans…). We will also do a lot of tasting of vegetables this week.
In math
we continue to learn concept of number (AM through 5, PM through 10), as well
as patterns, place value (1st, last, 2nd, 3rd…),
and comparisons of size, shape….
For prereading/writing
the both classes have exposure to putting the letters of their entire name in
order as well as writing their letters as they are able. The PM class is
learning to recognize the letters of the alphabet through singing the letters
to each others names. They also look for similar letters in their names and
compare which group has more using graphing.
We will continue to
be busy, busy, busy until the end of the year which is scheduled for Thursday,
June 19th for the PM class and Friday June 20th for the
AM class. Many more details about this to follow.
Have a nice spring,
The Preschool Staff
