Dear Winchester Families,

We need to share some sad news about a valued member of our school and community. Our long time crossing guard and friend, Mr. George Whittle, died late yesterday at his home. Mr. Whittle greeted us all with a smile and a wave each day from his post on Parker Street, where he helped our students safely cross to and from school. We are thinking of Mr. Whittle’s wife and family in this sad time. He has been connected to so many of us through family and school, but also as a member of the Winchester community.  He will certainly be missed.

We will be creating a memory wall in honor of Mr. Whittle near the main office. Teachers shared the news with students this morning and will be helping students interested in making a handprint memory for the display throughout the week. If your child is in need of extra support relating to this news, please contact Mrs. Willis in the main office. There is information on our website under “documents” about helping your child cope with grief. If you need any support with this please contact us. If your family would like to send condolences to Mr. Whittle’s family, those messages can be sent to school and we will pass them along.

Sincerely,

Mike Duprey
