December 22, 2017
Dear Parents/Guardians/Grandparents/and Interested Citizens:
As we begin the holiday break it appears we are going to have a white Christmas as snow is in the forecast for the next several days. The timing of these storms avoids school closings or having delayed openings. For that, I am thankful.
This last Newsletter for the 2017 year provides a snap shot of what to expect in the New Year.
ü Winter Recess - Today begins the holiday break. School resumes Tuesday, January 2nd. It is a full day of school.
ü Communication - The Principal, Assistant Principal and I will be available via email during the winter break.
ü Director of Student Services – We are pleased to announce that we have completed the interviewing process and will have in place a Director to guide our special education programs and services beginning in the middle of January. We will introduce her in the next Newsletter.
ü Transition to High School - Eighth grade families will be receiving information regarding the transition to Keene High School. The Keene High School Principal and the Director of School Counseling will be visiting our school and speaking to eighth grade students on January 5th. A parent night is being planned later in January. More information will follow.
ü Grant Update – Several grants have been written to sure up our security measures. This will save taxpayers from these necessary expenditures. We are hopeful that most (all) will be funded.
ü Wellness Committee: The committee is in the process of revising the wellness policy and reviewing our practices in providing physical education opportunities to students, as well as supporting healthy nutritional eating habits. The committee found a good informational website, Healthier Generation, to guide their work. This site may be useful in assessing the rigor of our present Wellness Policy.
ü Compassion and Caring - We very much appreciated the care and compassion shown this week by parents, community members, neighboring districts, and our staff in supporting students during this difficult time. Students had their needs addressed in an age appropriate, timely manner. We hope you found the resources provided in our communication with you helpful in talking with your children. On Saturday, December 23rd, there will be a Celebration of Life held at the Jaffrey American Legion on 20 Webster Street, Jaffrey, N.H. 03452, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. for Keyton Marrotte.
On behalf of the entire school community, we wish everyone a joyous, safe, and happy holiday season and the very best in the New Year. We are thankful for all the support you have offered as we wrap up the first part of the school year.
Dr. Genovese, M. Duprey, V. Carey
