Dear Parents, Guardians, Grandparents, and Interested Citizens:
Thank Goodness, Fall Weather Is Finally Arriving! This past week felt like the middle of Summer and elevated classroom temperatures can make teaching/learning a little more challenging. There are many engaging activities happening each day and just commenting on them does not do them justice. Hopefully, when you ask your child what they learned today that the response is not what I gave my parents … Oh Nothing! Or Not much! We are working toward having students develop the skills to “take charge” of their learning and in partnership with the teachers, become independent learners. This will serve them well no matter what career they choose, or projects they undertake. It will be a gift to take away from their education at Winchester.
I just have a few items to bring to your attention:
No School PD Day: Please remember that Friday, October 6th is a Professional Development Day for teachers and School is Not in Session. In order to deliver the best instruction possible and meet the needs of students, this time is a critical component of any high performing school district. I believe we need more to accomplish what needs to be addressed. This is a topic for another day. I am hopeful we can align our calendar with Keene High School so we can combine our efforts in ensuring a progressive curriculum, common strategies and share resources in a cost efficient manner in providing a Comprehensive Professional Development Program to our staff. More on this topic later.
Early Release Day: Also as a reminder, Friday October 20th is an early release day and students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. There will be no PM Pre-School program.
Back Parking Lot Paving: Toward the end of October, the parking lot behind the school will be paved and this will address a number of issues, including plowing. More information will be provided regarding bus drop off when we arrange a firm date. This is just a heads up on what is in the cue next.
Family BBQ: Thursday night we had a great turnout for our family Bar-B-Que. We are looking forward to an even bigger croud for Friday night. Special thanks goes out to all of our teacher, staff, and parents who volunteered to help make this such a success.
Please know that this event would not have been possible without the support from The Winchester PTA, The Winchester VFW, Global Truck Traders, Suburban Propane, and Kulick's Market.
Enjoy your weekend and thank you again for participating in the two-day BBQ Dinner/work sessions. Much appreciated!
