August 11, 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians/Grandparents/and Interested Citizens:

It is a pleasure to provide my second Newsletter. I hope you find the information helpful and informative. Principal Duprey indicated to me that he will be sending out a separate Newsletter next week that will provide pertinent information about the opening of school and related activities. Additionally, he will send out a reminder call to 9th grade parents regarding the upcoming orientation at Keene High School. As an FYI, a letter has recently been sent to parents regarding the particulars of this event.

It is my understanding that the bus routes will be published next week in The Shopper, perhaps in Wednesday’s paper, and we will also make it available on the district website.

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the 2017 Summer Summit at the University of New Hampshire with a number of teachers, the principal and vice principal. This was a great learning experience for me personally because presenters had timely and meaningful information. Additionally, Winchester teachers shared some excellent insights regarding the many learning opportunities for students. This will be very helpful as I work with staff and teachers throughout the year and I thank them for welcoming me into the district.

Teachers and administrators will be finalizing the mission and vision statement work they did last year and this will provide direction as we move forward. The public will be given an opportunity to provide feedback. Also, the School Board will be establishing some Guiding Principles that will help them provide leadership to the district. This is very exciting work and I commend both the staff and the School Board for undertaking these initiative.

The School Board asked me to look at systems, procedures and protocols with “fresh eyes” among other things. I began this work by looking at the set-up and structure of the SAU Office. I found that greater efficiencies in operation could be achieved by reorganizing the office work space to accommodate the various tasks performed daily. I believe the staff appreciates this initiative as they have been extremely cooperative and helpful in its implementation. This work will be completed in the next few weeks. The goals is to have a more professional looking office, with greater privacy for work (confidential conversations), and an environment more conduce to similar tasks performed daily.

Finally, as noted in the previous Newsletter, parents are encouraged to attend the Parent Open House on August 28 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by the first day of school on August 29th. This is a great way to reconnect with the school after a long summer break and it may relieve some anxiety before the start of school.

Respectfully,

Dr. Genovese (Dr. G)
