Winchester School Board Goals

1. Buildings, Site and Facilities

 

            Promote the continual upgrade of school buildings, site, and facility.

 

·   Hire a Facilities Supervisor

·   Job descriptions- Supervisor, Lead Custodian other

·   Repair all athletic fields

·   Lawn mowing Playground

·   Cleanliness

·   David- Plan for Thayer Building maximization

 

From Past Sessions:

·   Address Elementary School ventilation

·   Elementary – space and supplies

·   Develop 3-5 year maintenance plan

·   Install security system for all buildings

·   Install bleachers

·   Install WES alarm system

 

 

 

2. CURRICULUM

 

            Support school excellence and accountability by continually examining learner outcomes, curriculum, and programs designed to meet each student’s educational needs.

 

·   Review and rewrite curriculum to be in alignment with Keene High School, Keene Middle School and State

·   Fund PD $  Curriculum improvement

·   Community, parents involvement

·   Board presentations

·   Fund Co Curricular/ Field trips

·   NCLB – P.D.

·   Continue to train teachers (3rd) year on Winchester School Distinct Supervision/Evaluation Model

·   Provide support for all Students

            Social Workers- HS

            Career Day

·   Develop Assessment Plan using multiple forms of data

·   Continue Board involvement in curriculum

3. Staff

 

            Support Staff efforts to be life long learners and role models for students

From past sessions:

 

·   Support budget for staff development       

·   Develop fair and equitable salary schedule for all support staff

·   Maintain positive communication between board/staff/administration

·   Hold teachers responsible for continuous student progress, using evaluations and supervision

·   Insure that job descriptions for all positions in school district are current

·   Insure that all staff are evaluated every year

 

 

4. Communications:

 

            Continue to seek ways to improve communications and interactions with community and school.

 

·  More parent involvement in the school       

§         Continue student led conferences

§         Newsletter

§         Continue forums on various topics for parents          

§         Continue Web site

§         School Family Community Partnership

·  Recognition monthly to faculty/staff (certificates)

§         Board effort each month at Thursday Board Meetings

§         Beginning of year lunch

§         Develop recognition program for teachers who have been in the district 10-15-20-25-30 years.

 

5. Climate

 

            Promote programs, policies, and procedure designed to cultivate positive student behavior and impart core values of respect and responsibility

 

·   Establish school practice of visitor passes and security- safe/secure school video cameras, one entrance, visitor passes.

·   Supply good lighting outside buildings

·   Insure that all children should feel they belong

·   Promote and support a safe, clean orderly school atmosphere

·   Establish formal school practice of greeting and identifying visitors in each building

·  Investigate use of surveillance camera’s

 

 STUDENT BEHAVIOR

 

·   Expect that students will use respectful language 

·   Support more co- curricular activities

·   Support programs to eliminate vandalism reward program to be used at the discretion of Principal

·   Develop programs which promote pride in schools

·   Support expectations that students will be well-behaved

 

6. TECHNOLOGY

 

·   Support the development of up-to-date Web sites for all schools

·   Insure that a Technology plan K-8 is written and kept current

·   Insure that a Technology curriculum K-8 is written and implemented.

·   Support Students testing out of basic computer class middle school

·   Insure that all teachers are computer literate

·   Insure all administrators record keeping is kept on computer (scheduling, discipline, health records, attendance, student transcripts and grades. etc.

·   Study the development of a site for adult learners

·   Integrate Technology in to the assessment to improve student achievement, and develop critical thinking skills and problem solving

·  Support guidelines for computers in the middle school]

·  Compile written technology curriculum

·  Assess student technology skills

 

 7. Vision

 

·   Insure that schools

1.      Extend school programs to remain a vital part of the community

2.      Keep an orderly and clean environment

3.      Maintain high academic standards for students

4.      Maintain interesting appearances inside the school

5.      Provide parents and community with frequent information

6.      Administrators,  teachers and students communicate frequently with parents

7.      Reduce drop out rate

8.      Get more students out of novice category in NH State Assessments

 

8. Data Collection

·   Collect a full portfolio of types of data to inform all decision making

·   Insure that parents will accurately know what their children/students  know and can do, according to data collected

·   Support Data collection and use

·   Support analysis of data

·   Support publication of data to parents and community

·   Ensure K-12 communication and articulation of curriculum and  benchmarks

 

 9. RESOURCES AND FUNDING

 

·   Budget will reflect school and board goals- program budget

·  Board Finance Committee will review income and expenses on a monthly basis.
