6th Grade
May, 2008
Mrs. Heon and Mr. Durr
Dear Families,
This month
in science we will be working Plate Tectonics and possibly moving into renewable
energy resources. We have recently finished learning about fossils and will be
using our knowledge to help us understand the Continental Drift Theory! In math
we are finishing up an algebraic unit on balancing equations. Starting next week
we will be studying probabilities and rate, and we will also continue work on
division of decimals.
In
reading we will be finishing Theme 6 by mid May. As a result, we will be
completing the Houghton Mifflin series for sixth grade. The rest of this year’s
reading classes will be focused primarily on reviewing the comprehension skills
and strategies that we’ve all ready learned but through the use of chapter
books. In social studies we will be finishing our current study of ancient
Greece with a unit on the Olympics. I’m hoping; weather permitting, that we will
participate in our own version of the Olympics. After that we will be taking
quick looks at other ancient civilizations from China to the Americas.
